Technical solution Problem description Only for continuously adjustable automatic gearbox 01J, Multitronic gearbox, MY 01 - 04 all engines. This point doesn't apply to: • If the vehicle has been tuned! • If the complaint occurs both when driving forward and backward. When accelerating from stationary, the vehicle judders only after a few metres, whereby the drive train jerks. The complaint is regarded like a jolting clutch. In some cases engine speed fluctuations can be observed on the rev counter. Note: The complaint can be reproduced and always occurs when closing the clutch in the following ranges: Engine speed Accelerator pedal Speed Gear oil temperature 1. Diesel 1200-2000 rpm 10-50% 10-25 km/h Same when cold and warm 2. Petrol 1200-2800 rpm 10-50% 10-25 km/h Same when cold and warm Extended check (the complaint can mostly be reproduced here): 1. Accelerating from stationary with little accelerator, 10-30% on a slight gradient. 2. Handbrake on level ground engaged with two teeth. After driving a few metres the complaint occurs briefly before closing the clutch and is then gone. 3. At constant speed in TIP 4 below 2,000 rpm the complaint can occur every five seconds as a result of clutch controls. 4. Important: At constant speed in TIP 3 above 2,000 rpm the complaint must not occur. Cause When closing the clutch after driving off, the friction on the lining becomes too high. The active clutch control opens again the clutch straight away to maintain the driving-off comfort through clutch slip. The control circuit is performed a few times and leads to a juddering effect in the vehicle. Production solution From the gearbox production date 01.11.2002 MER of clutch disc lining on all V6 2.5l TDI/V6 3.0l . From the gearbox production date 01.05.2003 MER of clutch disc lining on all other engines. The clutch disc lining is additionally treated (MER = mechanical elasticity refinement). Service solution Replace the input shaft (optimised input shaft - MER). Repair instructions, see API 11/2001 in the Audi ServiceNET under Technical - Product Technical/Audi - Gearbox and in the workshop manual. • Under certain circumstances the complaint can also after the introduction of the optimised input shaft. • If the complaint is as described above, the input shaft must be replaced. V6 2.5l TDI only • On the gearbox with V6 2.5 l TDI the gearbox software must be updated with the VAS 5051 to adjust it to the new lining. The CD-ROM "Optimised input shaft (MER)" is needed - Order No. A00.5001.18.88. The following data versions can be updated with the CD: Old extended identification New extended identification 01J927156 CN ...RoW 2010 / ...RoW 2011 / ...RoW 2201 / ...RoW 2202 01J927156 CN...RoW 2213 01J927156 CT ...RoW 2010 / ...RoW 2011 / ...RoW 2042 / ...RoW 2200 / ...RoW 2201 01J927156 CT...RoW 2212 01J927156 FA ...RoW 3011 01J927156 FA...RoW 3022 01J927156 FK ...RoW 3011 01J927156 FK...RoW 3022 The precise procedure for the update is included on the Campaign CD 37C2. • If the update button doesn't appear on the tester, the latest data version has already been installed. • Do not use the K cable switch VAS 6017A for the update. Fault memory entries in the control units are correctly deleted at the end of the update without the cable switch VAS 6017A.
